Two times a year, the Teachers Without Borders volunteer network invites education professionals to apply to support the quality of the Education programs of Finn Church Aid.

The call for international volunteers for spring and summer 2025 is now open!

The call for applications for Teachers Without Borders positions is open from 21.10. until 10.11.2024.
Interviews will take place from 19.11 until 5.12.2024.
Final selections will be announced no later than 19.12.2024.
A basic training is organised for successful applicants between 11.-13.1.2025, in Helsinki. Please reserve the dates in your calendar to ensure you are able to participate in a very interesting and rewarding training.

Supporting colleagues in Uganda?

What? FCA Uganda is looking for Finnish education experts to support local teachers in pedagogical skills such as learner-centred pedagogy, classroom management skills and formative assessment. The volunteers’ tasks include strengthening the pedagogical skills and capacities of teachers and education actors through training and mentoring. Volunteers will also develop and update training materials.

 

Who? We are looking for two (2) volunteers for Uganda. You may apply for the position if you have strong pedagogical skills in primary or secondary education, and are passionate about mentoring and supporting teachers and other teaching staff. Knowledge of special education, skills in formative assessment and experience in designing and delivering in-service teacher training will be considered an asset. You should also be a proactive, adaptable and flexible team player.

 

Where? West Nile region of northern Uganda

 

When? 6 months (February-August 2025) and 4 months (February-May 2025)

Creative thinking in TVET and Linking Learning to Earning -pilot project

What? FCA Uganda supports vocational training in sectors such as agriculture, ICT, hairdressing, catering and tailoring, and is now looking for a Finnish education expert to support the development of vocational training and the power of creative thinking and guidance to lead young people to livelihoods. In this role, the volunteer will support the pedagogical and technical skills of local teachers and guidance counsellors and develop new educational materials. The volunteer will design and deliver training courses and workshops on a range of topics, including creative thinking, life skills, job searching skills, career guidance and entrepreneurship. The position will be a hybrid, combining an initial remote phase, followed by a period of in-country volunteering and a final distance period to complete the assignment.

 

Who? We are looking for 1-2 volunteers to help bridge the gap between vocational training and livelihoods. The education professional we are looking for could be a counsellor who is keen to support the career guidance skills of local professionals, a vocational education specialist who is itching to develop curriculum, or a creative arts teacher (visual arts, crafts) who wants to work with Ugandan colleagues to support vocational students creativity and thinking-skills which may open up new opportunities in the craft sector! The volunteer should be a creative thinker, solution oriented, with a positive and flexible attitude.

 

Where? Hybrid position: remote support and in-country deployment in Ugandan refugee settlements.

 

When? 1-2 months remotely + 2 months in Uganda (approximately June-July)  + 1-2 months remotely



The Teachers without Borders network will organise flights and insurance for the volunteers and
reimburse preparation costs, such as travel, visa and vaccinations. A small monthly allowance is paid to cover the local costs during the deployment.

Distance Expert and Distance Volunteer positions

Support for digital pedagogy in Kenya?

What? FCA Kenya is contributing to quality education in the refugee settlements in Kenya. While digital equipment has been added to schools, teachers now need support in using IT, starting from basic skills such as creating engaging PPT presentations. We are looking for an ICT educator to work with FCA Kenya staff to develop training materials on learner-centred digital pedagogy. The training package will also include a guide for teachers how to use ICT in the classroom. During the TWB remote assignment, the volunteer will train local ICT support staff and FCA Kenya staff.

 

Who? We are looking for 1-2 remote experts to support teachers’ pedagogical skills and digital literacy in spring 2025. You are the person we are looking for if you are a teacher with strong experience in using digital tools in education and eager to share your knowledge across borders! Experience of training teachers and developing training materials is considered an advantage. You should also be able to communicate digital knowledge in an inspiring and clear way, even to colleagues who have never used IT in the classroom before. We expect you to be visionary, adaptable and flexible.

 

Where? Remote support for Kalobeyei region in Kenya

 

When? 3 months, from February 2025

Distance support to Palestinian Colleagues?

What? In the midst of a constant state of emergency, school may be a safe haven for children and adults. FinnChurch Aid’s Palestine office is looking for Finnish education experts to strengthen the capacity of local teacher trainers, teachers and head teachers.  The volunteers’ tasks will include the organising of trainings and workshops based on a needs assessment for trainers, primary school teachers and principals. Other areas of support include teachers’ pedagogical skills in distance learning and a university collaboration to support the development of inclusive and special education.

 

Who? We are looking for 4 volunteers with experience in: (i) working with inclusive and special needs education; or (ii) distance learning + how to consider inclusion in distance learning; or (iii) experience as a headteacher or experience in supporting a headteacher; or
(iv) expertise from a teacher training institution, particularly in the field of inclusive and special education. We also appreciate your degree in Education, Special Needs Education, or Educational Psychology and experience in teacher training and peer mentoring. You should be willing to work with local experts to develop and find solutions for inclusive education.

 

Where? Distance support to the Occupied Palestinian Territories (East Jerusalem and West Bank).

 

When? 3 months, from March to June 2025

Distance support for the development of career guidance and vocational training, Myanmar

What? We are looking for a distance expert (1) to strengthen career guidance and counselling in non-state schools (e.g. monastic schools) in Myanmar. The expert will develop and deliver career coaching modules and training for local colleagues. The role may also include developing technical and vocational education and training (TVET) curricula and modules in collaboration with FCA Myanmar experts, and supporting the digitisation of guidance materials.

 

Who? We are looking for a remote expert to help bridge the gap between vocational education and livelihoods. The education specialist we are looking for could be a counsellor or vocational education specialist with a passion for developing the vocational education and training sector in Myanmar. The applicant should have an interest in supporting local professionals through distance cooperation and mentoring. A positive and flexible attitude, solution-oriented skills and cultural sensitivity will be an advantage.

When? 3 months, starting February 2025

TwB Distance Experts receive a small payment for their work. TwB distance volunteer positions, which require less input, are entirely voluntary.

Distance positions do not require a full-time commitment, and it is possible to combine the tasks with other work.
